Winners announced in 33rd Annual Anti-Drug Poster Contest

(CASA GRANDE, AZ) - Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the winners of the annual anti-drug poster contest, aimed at leaving community youth with a lasting anti-drug message.

The awards ceremony for the 33rd Annual Anti-Drug Poster Contest, put on by the Pinal County Attorney's Office, took place on Thursday, November 9th at Vista Grande High School in Casa Grande. Hundreds of family and friends gathered to celebrate the top-40 participants. The top-10 and top-3 winners were also announced.

The annual Anti-Drug Poster Contest is dedicated to the memory of Judge Robert Bean, who created the concept more than three decades ago.

More than 800 6th-grade students from across Pinal County took part in the contest. Superior Court judges picked the top-3. The goal of the contest is to teach youth about the dangers of drugs, especially fentanyl, which can all too easily reach children.

County Attorney Kent Volkmer was the master of ceremonies for the evening, but it also featured speakers Amy Neville and Misty Terrigino, two parents who each dealt with the death of one of their children who unknowingly ingested a pill containing fentanyl.

The Pinal County Attorney's Office appreciates all students who took part in the contest and hope the anti-drug message resonates with them for life.
