San Tan Valley man sentenced to 20 years for possessing sexually explicit images of children

FLORENCE, AZ - A San Tan Valley man has been sentenced to two decades in prison for possessing sexually explicit images of children.

On November 29th, 2023, Pinal County Superior Court Judge Daniel Washburn sentenced Matthew Haag, 48, to 20 years flat time in the Arizona Department of Corrections, followed by two terms of lifetime probation.

Haag pled guilty to Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a Class Two Felony and Dangerous Crime Against Children, and two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor in the Second Degree, Class Three Felonies and Preparatory Dangerous Crimes Against Children.

In January 2022, the Phoenix Police Department received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alleging Haag had uploaded multiple sexually explicit images of children. The images were reviewed and confirmed to be child sexual abuse material. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the internet service provider and identified Haag as the person living at the address. In March 2022, law enforcement conducted a residential search warrant at Haag’s home and retrieved various electronic devices, upon which they located thousands of images and videos of child sexual exploitation as well as videos depicting Haag as he was viewing these videos for sexual stimulation.
