Country Thunder returns this week

FLORENCE, AZ (April 5, 2022) – The Pinal County Attorney’s Office is encouraging everyone to make smart decisions when attending County Thunder in Florence this month.

Country Thunder Arizona 2022 is set to take place in Florence from Thursday, April 7th – Sunday, April 10th.

“Be smart, if you drink, don’t drive,” said County Attorney Kent Volkmer. “Enjoy yourself, and if you do drink call a rideshare or call a friend, but please don’t put our community or yourself at risk.”

After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Country Thunder returned to Arizona in October, 2021. Arrests related to those attending the festival were down compared to previous years.

In 2021, there were 16 DUI arrests, compared with 39 such arrests related to the previous festival, in 2019.

“Have fun and party hard,” Volkmer said. “But please know if you drive hammered you’ll get slammered!”

Non-DUI cases have also trended downward in recent years. In 2021, the Pinal County Attorney’s Office received fewer than ten cases related to underage drinking or fake ID.

Non-DUI cases were much higher in 2019, with roughly 50 cases submitted to PCAO involving criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and fake ID. Those numbers were even higher the previous year, in 2018, with roughly 90 cases.
